Service Dog at Terry Fox School

There will be a service dog in our school all year. All students and staff are instructed as to the proper protocols regarding working Service Dogs.

The Calgary Board of Education is committed to providing inclusive services and access for all students and employees.  A Service Dog must be registered and trained in order to enter any Calgary Board of Education location, including schools.

Maverick meets all service dog requirements and will assist students in The Class for the purpose of improving the physical, social, or emotional environment. He provides direct support to students through comforting, calming, and engaging interactions. Students have been guided to ask prior to interacting with Maverick, and to take directions from the Terry Fox staff member with him.

Maverick is a black lab.  He wears a blue vest.  He will be at Terry Fox on a daily basis.

  • Maverick is permitted in all school spaces with the exception of the foods room, construction room, and the canteen.

Maverick will be accompanied at all times by a CBE staff member. He will be walked on the back field (near the forest area) and all waste will be cleaned up immediately.

Please contact the school principal if you have any questions.
