General Athletics Information

Student Athlete Eligibility

  • All Terry Fox students in grades 7 – 9 can try out for the school’s athletic teams. Students in grade 7 and 8 can participate on junior teams and students in grade 8 and 9 can participate on senior teams. Grade 8s can try out for both but if successful they will be placed on only one.
  • Player commitment - 2 team experiences per week as follows: 1 game and 1 practice, or 2 games, or 2 practices. Practices schedules will be unique to each team and may be held before or after school. Games will be held in the evenings, students are not permitted to leave school early for games.
  • Students may try out for multiple teams throughout the year but are asked to talk with a family member about whether they are able to commit to more than one team, especially in the case of overlapping seasons of play.
  • No student will be able to try out for any team without a signed “Annual Athletic Tryout Authorization Form.”

Team Selection

  • Some of our teams will be cut teams and others will be no cut teams. For the cut teams, coaches will determine the number of students needed for each team and hold tryouts.
  • Team selection will be based on skill, fair play, positive communication and coachability displayed during tryouts.
  • There are no ‘red shirt’ or alternate positions on our teams.
  • If students are unable to attend a tryout we ask that they communicate with coaches directly to arrange an alternative opportunity.
  • Coaches will inform students directly if they are, or are not, selected for the team, no cuts will be posted publicly.
  • All students will have the opportunity to join various athletic clubs that will run throughout the school year and all students can participate in activities at lunch time.
